Medical Scribe

Medical scribes work behind-the-scenes or from home, listening to dictations and converting them into written documents for use by healthcare workers. This program prepares participants to listen to recorded dictations, interpret, and transcribe patient histories and documents, review and edit drafts prepared by speech recognition software, translate medical abbreviations into long form, and ensure reports are accurate.

Individuals who aspire to work in the healthcare industry but prefer to not be in frontline situations or who desire a predictable daily schedule. 

Eight-month program, self-paced, fully online.

Medical Scribe - provides a comprehensive overview of the skills needed to be a successful medical scribe. Medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, EHR navigation, HIPAA privacy laws, pharmacology, and scribing essentials are all covered. 

$3,599 includes the cost of online learning materials and certification exams. 

Eligible participants must have: 
  • A high school diploma or equivalent 
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills 
  • Minimum of 60 words/minute typing skills 
  • Be detailed oriented with an attention to details and great listening skills 
  • Be proficient in grammar and have a solid ability to read and write in English 

To be successful in the Medical Scribe program, participants must be able to meet the following sensory and physical standards:

Ability to use senses 
  • Visual acuity to identify, read, and understand directions in English on equipment and other documents required in care such as laboratory procedures and administering medications, sharps, or equipment
  • Ability to distinguish distance, colors, objects, and persons
  • Ability to hear sounds and warning signals in training facility, which could lead to an emergency situation requiring some type of proactive or reactive response 
  • Ability to detect and tolerate smells that may unpleasant or indicate a possible danger
Physical ability 
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk continually
  • Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch frequently 
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds 
  • Close vision required to see computer monitor, read documents, and operate copy and fax machine 
  • Work environment is indoors and climate controlled. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions
