EXPLORE BIOTECHNOLOGY - FALL 2026
Omaha-area biotechnology and biorefinery employers have expressed a need for entry-level technicians with biotechnology skills relevant to their biomanufacturing processes. Metropolitan Community College is addressing this through a new biotechnology training program with key objectives:
- Develop credit and noncredit training for technician jobs.
- Build an industry-reflective lab training space.
- Provide professional development in biotechnology for MCC science faculty to enhance current courses.
- Launch a biotechnology awareness/recruitment campaign, including summer camps for students, training for K-12 teachers, and a high school academy.

STRECK Biotechnology Certificate of Achievement (STRCE)
49 credits
The Streck Biotechnology certificate provides training for students to gain skills learning basic biotechnology lab techniques that will provide a foundation to prepare a student to obtain an entry-level position at Streck.

Biotech Lab Launching Fall 2026 | MCC Elkhorn Campus
Metropolitan Community College is building a state-of-the-art biotechnology lab—the first of its kind in the region. This industry-driven space is being designed in partnership with leading biotech companies to meet workforce demands and prepare future technicians for in-demand careers.
This lab represents more than a classroom—it’s a hub for collaboration between industry, education, and community, and a critical step toward growing local talent for the biotech economy.
