Institutional and Professional Licensure Disclosures

Federal regulations and State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) policy require institutions to disclose whether a program is designed to meet, or advertised as meeting, the educational requirements for licensure or certification in a particular state. Institutions must also provide a list of all States, indicating whether the program's curriculum meets or does not meet those requirements.

MCC is committed to helping prospective students understand how our degrees may or may not meet professional licensure/certification requirements.

Before You Enroll

If you are considering a program that may lead to licensure or certification, you should:

  • Review the applicable licensure disclosures.
  • Confirm your state of residence or the state in which you intend to seek licensure.
  • Review information from the relevant state licensing board.
  • Contact the academic program with questions.

Professional Licensure Information

Licensure is individual. Only licensure boards or agencies can determine whether a program has met requirements. These boards and agencies make that determination after someone graduates or completes the program and applies for a license. After all reasonable efforts, we have provided our best assessment of how our program matches the educational requirements for licensure. Metropolitan Community College cannot guarantee the ability to earn a professional license in any field in any state or territory.

Additional Requirements: Completing a program is typically one part of the professional licensure requirements. Most states require the individual meet additional requirements in order to qualify for licensure, including but not limited to additional coursework and training, supervised clinical experiences, and successful passage of state or national exams. Other licensure requirements include, but are not limited to, fees, background checks, years of work experience, references, fingerprinting, U.S. citizenship, and/or authority to work, minimum age, or having a non-governmental organization-issued certification first.

Potential Changes in Requirements: Licensure information is reviewed and updated annually. Licensure requirements are subject to change at any time. While a program may meet the educational requirements for licensure at the time you enroll, changes in requirements could impact the program’s ability to meet new educational requirements. Student should periodically check with the state licensure board or agency in the state(s) they intend to work in to confirm licensure requirements.

Professional Licensure Attestation Statement is a document or declaration signed by a student affirming their understanding of an academic program's licensure eligibility. Under U.S. Department of Education regulations, higher education institutions must obtain this statement if a student enrolls in a program that does not meet the educational requirements for professional licensure in the state where the student is located.

Through this attestation, the student confirms that they:

  • Are aware the program does not fulfill educational licensing requirements in their current state of residence.
  • Intend to relocate to, or seek employment and licensure in, a state where the curriculum does satisfy the licensing board’s requirements.
  • Understand it remains their personal responsibility to research and meet all other prerequisites (e.g., exams, background checks, practical hours) required for licensure in that state.
