Academic Program Information

Metropolitan Community College (MCC) offers a variety of academic programs, including associate degree, diploma, or certificate-level credentials. The College Catalog provides detailed information about the available academic programs and courses. You can also find program information under Programs of Study on the MCC website.

Textbook Prices and Course Materials: Costs vary by program, course load, and classes selected. You may be able to reduce your costs by buying used books, renting books, or purchasing digital books.

MCC Locations: Classes are offered through a variety of delivery methods and times, and at convenient locations throughout our service area of Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy, and Washington counties.

Accreditation

MCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Many MCC academic programs have sought and been awarded accreditation specific to their degree offerings: Metropolitan Community College Accreditation.

Students, faculty, and other stakeholders may file a complaint with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) regarding concerns about MCC's compliance with accreditation standards.

The Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education is responsible for responding to formal complaints against public, independent non-profit, and most proprietary institutions of higher education that offer degrees in Nebraska.

Cash Management Contracts

Under the Federal Title IV cash management regulations, institutions are required to publicly disclose any contract that governs a Tier One or Tier Two Arrangement as well as information about the costs incurred by students who elect to use a financial account offered under one of those arrangements.

The Regulations included, among others, provisions related to how disbursement options and financial products can be marketed to students, the delivery of debit cards to students, the sharing of student information under certain arrangements, prohibitions on the incurrence of certain types of account fees to student account-holders and requirements related to ATM access for student account-holders.

Civic Engagement

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day Disclosures

All institutions receiving federal funding are required to provide educational programming pertaining to the United States Constitution on Sept. 17 of each year. All students are notified of campus activities celebrating Constitution Day.

Voter Registration Information

A college student should register to vote in the county and state of their permanent residence.

College Navigator provides information about schools, including costs, financial aid, enrollment, and other information. MCC’s information can be found on the U.S. Department of Education’s College Navigator – National Center for Education Statistics site.

MCC is committed to upholding copyright laws, including peer-to-peer file sharing, and ensuring the responsible use of technology by all students, faculty, and staff. Privacy Statement

Financial Assistance Available to Students

MCC offers various financial aid programs to assist students. Please refer to the Financial Matters section of the 2024-2025 MCC Catalog for information about the types of aid available, terms and conditions, eligibility requirements, and disbursement information. Health and Safety

MCC College Police provide information about campus safety and security to keep everyone informed.

  • MCC Police Annual Security Report
    • The Annual Security Report (ASR) provides information on campus safety policies, crime statistics, and security procedures to ensure compliance with the Clery Act and promote a safe environment.
  • Crime Log Report
    • The campus crime log is a publicly accessible record of reported criminal incidents on or near MCC campuses, providing details such as the nature, date, time, and location of each crime.
  • DRUG-FREE Schools and Community Act
    • The Drug Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 requires institutions who participate in federal student aid programs to provide information to its students, faculty and employees to prevent drug and alcohol abuse. Possible repercussions of violating state and institutional drug and alcohol policies are listed in Student Code of Conduct.
  • Emergency Procedures Handbook
    • The emergency procedures handbook is intended for use by faculty and staff at Metropolitan Community College. It is designed specifically to address possible emergency conditions at all College locations.
  • Title IX
    • Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination in educational programs and activities. For Information, visit MCC’s Title IX webpage.

Professional Licensure

The College president serves as chief executive officer of the College. The President's Office reports to the MCC Board of Governors.

Randy Schmailzl

Schmailzl started his career as a high school teacher, administrator and coach in 1976. He moved on to the field of higher education as a faculty member, administrator and coach, before joining MCC in April 1989 as the director of Enrollment Management, Records and Placement. He became the dean of Student Services in 1995. In March 1998, he became provost and was named executive vice president in July 2001. On Aug. 25, 2009, he was appointed president of the College. Schmailzl earned a bachelor's degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and his master's degree in Counseling, Administration and Higher Education from South Dakota University.

Patricia Crisler

Having served the College in a variety of capacities since 1998, including K-12 partnerships, community education, workforce training, research, grants and fundraising development, Crisler currently provides strategic and operational support to the College president. She supports the president's work across all areas of the College and with the elected Board of Governors, and provides administrative leadership to the office of Marketing & College Enrollment, the 180 Re-entry Assistance Program, Veterans and Military Resource Center, Pathway Support Systems, Planning & Institutional Effectiveness, and the Path Forward Initiative. Crisler holds a master's degree in Higher Education Administration and a doctorate in Educational Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Thibodeau came to MCC in April of 2007, as the director of Labor Relations and General Counsel after seven years with the office of the Douglas County Attorney in Omaha. He was appointed to the position of associate vice president for Compliance and General Counsel in October of 2016. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a law degree from Creighton University.

Cari Henry provides executive level support to the College President, Board of Governors, and other executive staff within the President’s Office. After spending a decade performing both administrative duties and substantive legal tasks for law offices and governmental agencies in eastern Nebraska, Cari transitioned to the field of higher education and spent 3½ years as the administrative assistant for both the Business and Career & Technical Sciences divisions at Central Community College in Columbus, Nebraska, before joining MCC in January 2025. She is an alum of Nebraska’s community college system, holding associate degrees in Theatre from Central Community College and in Paralegal Studies from Northeast Community College. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies from Bellevue University.

The Student Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines and expectations designed to create a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all students. It outlines unacceptable academic and non-academic behaviors, disciplinary procedures, and students' rights and responsibilities.

Vaccination Policies

Metropolitan Community College does not require vaccinations for general admission. However, vaccinations may be required for admission to a specific class or program. Students should contact their program for specific vaccination requirements. MCC suggests that students consult with their healthcare provider regarding recommended vaccinations when deciding whether they want to be vaccinated.
