Professional Licensure Disclosures

Federal regulations require colleges and universities to disclose whether educational programs that are designed to lead to professional licensure or certification meet the educational requirements for licensure or certification in each U.S. state and territory.

Metropolitan Community College (MCC) provides professional licensure information to help prospective and current students understand whether an MCC program meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification in the state or territory where they intend to work.

Important: MCC may not enroll a student in a program leading to professional licensure or certification if MCC has determined that the program does not meet the educational requirements for licensure or certification in the state or territory where the student is located.

A determination that an MCC program does not meet a state's educational requirements does not necessarily mean that an individual can never obtain licensure in that state. Additional coursework, examinations, training, transcript review, or other state-specific requirements may provide another pathway to licensure. Students should contact the applicable state licensing board for information about available pathways.

Before You Enroll

If you are considering an MCC program that may lead to professional licensure or certification:

  • Review the professional licensure disclosure for your program.
  • Confirm the state or territory where you are currently located and the state or territory where you intend to seek licensure or certification.
  • Review the current requirements of the applicable state licensing board or agency.
  • Contact the MCC academic program if you have questions about the program's curriculum or licensure determination.

Understanding Professional Licensure Requirements

Understanding Professional Licensure Requirements

Professional licensure and certification requirements are established by individual states, territories, licensing boards, and regulatory agencies. Ultimately, only the applicable licensing or regulatory authority can determine whether an individual meets the requirements for licensure or certification.

MCC has made reasonable efforts to determine whether its programs meet the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in each state and territory. However, completion of an MCC program does not guarantee that an individual will qualify for or receive a professional license or certification.

Additional Licensure Requirements

Completing an educational program is typically only one component of professional licensure or certification. Depending on the profession and jurisdiction, additional requirements may include examinations, additional coursework or training, supervised clinical or professional experience, work experience, fees, background checks, fingerprinting, references, minimum-age requirements, citizenship or work-authorization requirements, or certification by another organization.

Changes in Licensure Requirements

MCC reviews its professional licensure information annually; however, state and territorial requirements may change at any time. Students should periodically review the requirements of the applicable licensing board or regulatory agency, particularly if they plan to become licensed in a state or territory other than the one in which they are currently located.
