Phlebotomy Technician

This program prepares participants to collect blood specimens for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Topics include all aspects related to blood collection, including comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work include terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, specimen hands-on practice, and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. Upon completion, participants will meet the necessary requirements to to take the  NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification exam. Exam will be proctored at the completion of the program. 

Individuals seeking a health career working in blood clinics, plasma clinics, hospitals, and community health centers.

The cost of the Phlebotomy Technician Course is $3,088 and includes all required coursework. Financial assistance may be available for eligible participants through the Nebraska GAP Assistance Program, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding, or Workforce Pell funding.

MCC Phlebotomy Technician Course: September 1 – December 3

Eligible participants must: 

• Have a high school diploma or equivalent 

To be successful in the Phlebotomy Technician program, participants must be able to meet the following sensory and physical standards: 

General Standard	Specific Example
Ability to use senses	Visual acuity to identify, read, and understand directions on equipment and other documents required in people care such as laboratory procedures and administering medications, sharps, or equipment Ability to see objects closely, and distinguish distance, colors, objects, and persons Ability to hear sounds and warning signals in training facility, which could lead to an emergency requiring some type of proactive or reactive response Ability to detect and tolerate smells that may unpleasant or indicate a possible danger
Physical ability	Ability to stand and sit for long periods Ability to use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls Ability to lift, move, carry, push, and pull at least 25 pounds Ability to bend and twist body, including crouching, kneeling, or reaching
