Transfer Guide: MCC Nursing – Associate Degree (ASNAS) to University of Nebraska Medical Center Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2023-24)

The associate degree nurse has both dependent and independent functions within a variety of healthcare environments throughout the community. This member of the healthcare team selects from a variety of therapeutic nursing interventions to provide care for clients. Graduates of this program are eligible to write for the National Licensure Examination (NCLEXRN) for licensure as a registered nurse.

NOTES:

  • It is recommended that students complete the courses in the Associate in Science degree above within two years, and no more than five years. Courses transferred after five years are individually reviewed.
  • The College of Nursing admits approximately 75 students into Omaha, 72 students into Lincoln, 48 into Kearney and Norfolk, and 36 students into Western Nebraska divisions in the fall of each year. Admission into the College of Nursing is competitive. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required. Admission preference is given to students with GPAs of 3.3 and above.

Medical Lab Sciences

MCC’s General Health Studies (GHAAS) Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences at UNMC

What is a Medical Laboratory Scientist?

  • Medical Laboratory Scientists use special equipment to perform many different laboratory tests on fluids taken from a patient.
  • These include blood, saliva, or urine. The tests identify and help treat diseases.

The Physician Assistant program is a master’s level program that requires students to complete a bachelor’s degree. Students can earn a bachelor’s degree in any area of interest (i.e. Biology, Business, Music, Nursing, etc.). Listed below are Metropolitan Community College courses that satisfy the University of Nebraska Center’s (UNMC) Physician Assistant (PA) admission requirements. Radiography

The Radiography program is a bachelor’s program at UNMC where students earn a Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging & Therapeutic Science. The program is a 21-month program and consists of lecture, demonstrations, laboratory and supervised clinical experiences. Students who have completed the admission requirements at MCC, have the opportunity to earn their associate’s degree at MCC through the reverse transfer process. Listed below are Metropolitan Community College courses that satisfy the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s (UNMC) Radiography admission requirements. Students should consult with their MCC Advisor and an UNMC advisor often.

Admission to the Radiography program requires the applicant to present a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) at time of application submission and successfully complete 26-semester hours (39-quarter hours) of prerequisites prior to matriculation.
